William "Bill" Oliver Ames

William “Bill” Oliver Ames, 85, of Trenton, MI passed away on March 23. 2022 in Augusta, GA. He was born in Pontiac, MI to William Ames and Ruth Johnston on January 14, 1937. He married Sandra Kay Gelow.

Bill was a Technical Ink Salesman with Grand Rapids Printing Ink before retiring. He is also a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was involved with many local organizations. The Trenton Jaycees, US Marine Corps League Downriver Detachment 153, American Legion Post 426, St. Joseph Dad’s Club, Craftsman Club, Litho Club United States International Speed Skating Association, Wyandotte Speed Skating Association are a few that were near to Bill’s heart. He was also a crew mate on the Hellion at the Grosse Ile Yacht Club for more than 20 years. Bill was awarded Outstanding Young Man of Trenton by the Trenton Jaycees.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Kay Ames; daughters, Cynthia (Richard) Ames-Lilly, Holly (Ronald) Johnson, Lindsey (James) Ames-Kolaroff and Melissa (Chris) Ames-Crowe; grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Ames, Garrett (Lacia) Crowe, Christian (Megan) Crowe, Alyssa (Dajuan) Crowe, Nathan (Savannah) Crowe, Thad Kolaroff, Magon Lilly, Jennifer (Blake) Livingston, Ronald Johnson, Stacy (Bryan) Latta and Ryan (Jennifer) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Madyson, David, Penelope, Vivienne, Colette, Bronson, Avery, Alex, Rosalee, Warren, Waylan, Brayton; brothers, Frank (Martha) Ames, Scott (Jackie) Gelow and sister in law, Florence Ames.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Leo Johnson; daughter, Theresa Lynn Ames and brother, Gary W. Ames.

The Ames family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the VA hospitals in Augusta, GA and Ann Arbor, MI.

Memorial Services will be held on June 11th at 10:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church 2565 Third St. Trenton, MI 48183.
