Evans, GA - Mrs. Shirley Hawton Little, 88 and a long time resident at Brandon Wilde, passed away Friday, August 6 after a long illness.

Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Little Jr. She is survived by her three daughters: Peggy Thompson (John) Augusta; Patty MacNabb (Joe)
Newnan, Georgia and Kathryn Gaddy (Steve) Alexandria, Virginia. She is also survived by grandchildren: Katie Thompson, Andy Thompson, Rachel MacNabb, Parks MacNabb, Davis Gaddy and Emily Gaddy, along with great grandchildren: Anne Lovett Thompson and Drew Thompson.

Mrs. Little was born in Springfield, Oregon. She grew up in Seattle, Washington, attended Catholic schools and graduated from Seattle University with a BSRN degree. During WWII, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and completed her Basic Training in Modesto, California, where she met her Commanding Officer, who became her husband of 49 years.

As her husband’s profession evolved, she and her family lived in North Carolina, Minnesota, Texas, West Virginia and South Carolina before moving to Augusta in 1967. She was instrumental in organizing the Women’s Auxiliary Volunteer Program and Candy Striper Volunteer Program at Anderson Memorial Hospital in Anderson,
South Carolina. She was also an avid supporter of Thornwell Orphanage in Clinton, South Carolina.

After moving to Augusta, Mrs. Little was a Board member of the Women’s Auxiliary at University Hospital. She was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Little was a long time member of the PEO Sisterhood. She was also an avid Bridge player and garden club member. Mrs. Little and her husband enjoyed traveling all over the world.

Mrs. Little’s family would especially like to thank the Staff at Brandon Wilde, whose compassion, skill and personal attention made her life better for so many years. Her daughters greatly appreciated the close relationship they shared with the Brandon Wilde Staff in caring for their Mother. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Alliance Hospice for their additional care and support during her final days.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 9, at 3:00 pm in the Georgia Room at Brandon Wilde, 4275 Owens Road, Evans. Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church,
2261 Walton Way, Augusta.
