Ruth Taylor Gay

February 25, 1917 — April 17, 2012

Augusta, GA---Mrs. Ruth Taylor Gay, 95, peacefully passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Westwood Nursing Facility, Evans, GA.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Westover Memorial Park with Chaplain Ken Wilson officiating.
No visitation has been scheduled.
Mrs. Gay was born in Jackson, Georgia, on February 25, 1917. She was one of thirteen children born to the late Asma Forest Taylor and Phoebe Sims Taylor.
Prior to World War II, she worked for Sears and Roebuck Company in Atlanta, GA and played on their Women’s Basketball Team. Near the end of the World War II, she married Clarence Hayden Gay and they had two children. Following World War II, they moved to Macon, GA and Mrs. Gay worked in Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA. She became a Procurement Officer and participated in the Air Force’s acquisition of the First Generation of Laser Guided Bombs and the Wild Weasel Radar Jamming Aircraft during the Viet Nam War. Following retirement, she loved traveling especially in Florida and Europe, gardening (Camellias and Tomatoes), being with her siblings and family and playing Bridge.
Mrs. Gay had been a resident of the Augusta area for the last fifteen years. She will be remembered as hard working, dynamic, gentle and loving.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Howard Hayden Gay of Alpine, Texas.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Gregory L. Gay, MD and Danna Gay of Augusta, GA, grandchildren, John Hayden Gay of Milledgeville, GA, Elizabeth Ansley Gay of Augusta, GA and a sister Margaret Blackley of Sandy Springs, GA.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. George Pursley and the dedicated caregivers at Kentwood and Westwood Nursing Facilities.
