Mrs. Ruth Dike Warren
Augusta, GA – Mrs. Ruth Joyce Dike Warren, age 82 beloved wife of the late Harvey Boswell Warren, Jr. entered into rest on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. David Sanders and the Rev. Rick Brewer officiating. Interment to follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Warren was born in Augusta on December 24, 1927 to Lillian Blackston Dike and Solon Augustus Dike. Although she moved as a child to Charleston, SC, Mrs. Warren spent most of her life in the Augusta area attending Tubman High School and later working for the Augusta Arsenal. She met her husband H.B. Warren and on July 6, 1946 they were married and spent the next 59 years together. Mrs. Warren was a faithful member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church where she was a member of the Martha McGahee Sunday School class. She also taught the 3-year-old Sunday School class for 15 years and was a member of the “Faithful Ones”. Mrs. Warren will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will also be remembered as a great cook, known to cook on most holidays and Sundays for her whole family.
Mrs. Warren is survived by her son, Harvey “Chip” Boswell Warren, III and wife Cyndi of Belvedere; her two daughters, Bonnie Youn and Carol Thompson and husband Steve all of Augusta; her sister, Frances Dike Johnson and husband Harold; her seven grandchildren, Valerie G. Smith and husband Robb, Warren Wylds and wife Meg, Jennafer Thompson, Pamela T. Kinnaird and husband Peter, Danielle E. Thompson, Heather B. Warren, and Harrison B. Warren; and her seven great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jeremy Smith, Matthew and Lane Burnside, Andrew and Mary Margaret Wylds, and James Liptak.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Dike Granade.
If so desired memorials may be made to Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, 507 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
Pallbearers will be Warren Wylds, Robb Smith, Peter Kinnaird, Jacob Smith, Harrison Warren, and Jeremy Smith.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 6, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
