Evans, GA – Lt. Col. Russell A Davidson, M.D., husband of Leigh Ann Meybohm Davidson, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 15, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Jacob O. Malone officiating. Burial with full military honors to follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Rusty was a 1987 graduate of the Porter Gaude School, a 1991 graduate of the United States Military Academy, and a 1995 graduate of MUSC. He served his internship from 1995-1996 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Following his internship, Rusty went on to be a General Medical Officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1996-1998, he then finished his Orthopedic Surgery Residency in 2002 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, and he also completed a Spine Surgery Fellowship in 2003 at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He went on to work at Eisenhower Army Medical Center as a staff spine surgeon in 2003 and worked in that position until becoming Chief of Spine Surgery and Director of the Orthopedic Residency Program.

He served his country proudly in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. His military awards and merits include: two Meritorious Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Global War on Terrorism Service, an Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Ribbon, and an Air Assault Badge.

Rusty loved his family and in his spare time he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an extremely talented surgeon and had such heartfelt respect and empathy for every one of his patients which allowed him to communicate with such natural ease and gain their trust and confidence. He treated his job of taking care of patients as a privilege. Rusty was a dedicated researcher, educator, and mentor to students, residents, and peers. He could take care of most any need that came along and was always eager to help his friends.

In addition to his loving wife Leigh Ann, Rusty is survived by his daughters, Margaret Lynn Davidson and Audrey Claire Davidson; his parents, James Thomas “J.T.” of Allentown, GA and Annelle Carlton and husband Bruce of The Villages, FL; his brother, Victor M. Davidson and wife Karen of Charleston, SC; his father and mother in law, E.G. Meybohm and wife Lynn; his brother in law, Grey Meybohm and wife Jen; his sister in law, Millie Klosinski and husband Scott; his niece, Shelby Davidson; and his nephews, John Klosinski, Bowen Klosinski, Grey Klosinski, and Greyson Meybohm.

Active pallbearers will be Dan Williams, M.D., Kevin O’Shea, M.D., Chris Smith, Will Youngblood, Victor Davidson, Pete Gaudet, Kevin Coley, Jim McDougall, M.D., and also members of the United States Army Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will the Orthopedic Physician Residents and Staff at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
