AUGUSTA, GA - Rudolph Sheppard Dixon Sr., 87, husband of 64 yrs. of the late Joyce Dawson Dixon, entered into rest Monday, June 10, 2013 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. Brian LaFavor officiating and burial at 2:00PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera, GA.

A native of Avera, GA, Mr. Dixon lived in Augusta since 1944. An electrician by trade, he was a Training Instructor in the US Army Signal School at Ft. Gordon until retiring in 1993 and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers LU 1579 for 59 years.

He was a member of Crawford Ave. Baptist Church for 62 years where he was an ordained deacon and retained his membership until moving back to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 2006.

He was a 33rd Degree Mason, past Worshipful Master and 53 year member of John S. Davidson Lodge, Custodian of the 10th District of Georgia F&AM for 30 years and past 10th District Deputy to the Grand Master. He became a Scottish Rite Mason in October, 1960, a 32 degree KCCH in October, 1987 and was honored with the 33rd degree in November, 1995.

With a devotion to serve others Mr. Dixon enjoyed volunteering for the Master's Table Soup Kitchen and for the Salvation Army as a bell ringer at Christmas. He was an avid hunter and loved country music.

Additional survivors include one son, Rudolph S. Dixon Jr. (Cheryl), two daughters, Sandra Gay (Eddie), Joy Newman, all of Augusta; eight grandchildren; Byron Gay (Tracie), Scott Gay (Nancy), Lora Alford, Allison Dixon, Ashley Hill (Nick), Whitney Dixon, Brian Newman Jr. (Amber), Brooke Maryak (Justin); eleven great-grandchildren, a sister, Lawana Smith Harris in Atlanta, and longtime friend, Harold “Chocolate” Dye. He was predeceased by his sister Dahlia Dixon Miller.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Jane Aaron, Diane Jones and Meaner Turman for their love and support.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Gay, Byron Gay, Scott Gay, Brian Newman Jr., Ellis Miller and Alan Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Masons in the 10th District of Georgia.

If so desired, the family has requested that contributions be made to Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, Augusta, GA or to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera, GA.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
