Ronnie Hayslip

Grovetown, GA - Ronnie Hayslip, 71, loving husband of 48 years to Sue Hayslip, entered into rest on Thursday, August 31, 2017.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Rev. Philip Hedgecoth officiating. Burial will follow at Wadley Cemetery in Wadley, GA at 5:30 PM.

Ronnie was born in Sandersville, Ga. On July 15, 1946 to Louie and Sara Hayslip. He grew up in Wadley, GA and graduated from Wadley High School where he played football, baseball, basketball, ran track, and was on the doubles tennis team. He went on to Georgia Southern College where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and then taught school for five years. In addition to teaching, he coached football and basketball at Louisville High School, was Athletic Director, and football coach at Wadley High School, football coach at Bacon County High School, and football coach at Evans High School. After coaching, he entered the insurance profession where he received many awards. He served as president of Life Underwriters Association in Valdosta, Georgia and was a member of the Life Underwriters Association in Augusta, Georgia. He was also president of AMBUCS of Augusta and local area governor of AMBUCS.

Ronnie never lost his passion for sports and coaching. Some of the best times of his life were spent coaching his son and the NAPA Bulldogs at the Boys Club in Valdosta, Georgia and coaching his grandson at the Columbia County Recreation Department. He and good friend, Dr. Dick Eckert organized the Augusta Red Sox baseball program for college aged kids. He served on the Board of Directors at the Boys Club in Valdosta and the Board of Directors of the Columbia County Recreation Department.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son; Ben Hayslip and wife Melissa of Lebanon, TN, daughter; Kim Combs and husband Jason of Grovetown, GA, seven grandchildren; Tarver Hayslip, Camden Hayslip, Knox Hayslip, Jace Combs, Cade Combs, Ella Combs, and Brodie Combs. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; Louie and Sara Hayslip, and brother; Ricky Hayslip.

Pallbearers will be Dan Tarver, Scott Lamb, Chris Lamb, Michael Holder, Buddy Holder, Rodney Holder, Allen Dempsey, and Ryan Bennett. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Holder, Ben McElreath, Bill Cooper, Rusty Foster, Danny Black, Al Dempsey, Tildon Smith, Rick Osborne, Coke Geddings, Chuck McMillan, and Charles Warnock.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
