Robert Walter Sfc Matz

Augusta, GA – SFC Robert Walter Matz, 64, husband of Ghadam Matz for 38 years, will enter into rest on Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM at the Platt's Funeral Home, Belair Road, Wednesday, June 27, 2012 with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating.
Bob was born in Reading, Pennsylvania where he grew up. He entered the US Army via Fleetwood Pennsylvania, and retired after 20 years of service. He was trained as a Communications Electronics Maintenance Specialist. His stateside assignments include: West Point, New York and Fort Gordon Georgia. His overseas assignments include: the Federal Republic of Germany, and Iran. His military awards include: The National Defense Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal 4 Awards, The Good Conduct Medal 6 Awards, The Army Achievement Medal 2 Awards, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with 3 device, The Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge and the Sharpshooter Hand-Grenade Badge. Upon retirement from the military, he worked at Savannah River Site, for General Electric, where he served as a Computer and Electronics Specialist. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, prolific reader, scholar of politics, American fiction and non-fiction literature.
In addition to his wife, survivors include Masoud and wife Lucinda of Alfred New York, Saeed of Augusta Georgia. Nasrin Lopez and husband James of Augusta Georgia, and eight grandchildren: Nathan, Joseph, and Sarah of Alfred New York, Nicole, Michael, Brandon, and Alex of Augusta and Shelby of Atlanta.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the funeral home.
