Robert Murphy

Robert Murphy (84), of Fredericksburg, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years Lucy Mae (Baxley) Murphy in 1993. He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie K. Michaels of Fredericksburg, VA and his son, Robert D Murphy (Judy) of Fenwick Island, DE, 3 grandchildren, Cullen, Courtney (Ryan), and Bobby and 2 great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Sam.

Mr. Murphy was born in Augusta, GA and, after a tour in the Army serving his country in Korea, moved to Northern Virginia in 1954. He worked at the Government Printing Office, Washington, DC from 1958 to 2001, retiring at the age of 70.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an accomplished duckpin bowler, softball player and outdoorsman well into his 50's and beyond.

The family will receive visitors at Platts Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Avenue, Augusta GA 30904 on Sunday May 3 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Visitation on Monday May 4 will begin at 12:00 pm with a chapel service at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Jackson Park Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, SC.
