Robert E. Bob Smith

Augusta, Ga. – Robert “Bob” E. Smith, 69, entered into rest on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at his residence.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. H. Grady Mosley, II, officiating. Committal services will follow at Westover Memorial Park with full military honors.

Mr. Smith retired in 1980 from the United States Army after 21 years of distinguished service, during which time he served two tours in Viet Nam. He also retired in 2006 after 23 years of service with the United States Post Office, spending the last 15 years as Postmaster to the city of New Ellenton, South Carolina.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce (Jo), of Augusta, and his children, Deborah Mosley and her husband Grady Mosley, of Lawrenceville; Teresa Thompson and her husband Alan Thompson of Augusta; and Angela Smith of Augusta; his brother, Mike Smith of Maryville, Tennessee; his stepfather, James Hill of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Brooks Mosley, Trey Mosley, and Paul Dana Mosley of Lawrenceville, and Payne Thompson and Rob Thompson of Augusta. He is preceded in death by a son, Randy Smith; a brother, Jerry Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee; and his parents, Stella Smith and Dowe Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Footprints for the Future, Prospect United Methodist Church, 1549 Prospect Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
The family will receive friends at the family home on Thursday and Friday, February 5 and 6 , 2009, and then at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
