Robert A. Reverend Boyd, Sr.

Evans, GA – Rev. Robert A. Boyd, Sr., 86, loving husband of 62 years to Lucille Hobbs Boyd, entered into rest on Saturday, November 24, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at West Acres Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Rev. Boyd dedicated his life to the ministry. Early on, he was Pastor of Powell Baptist Church and taught school at Bayvale Elementary School. He was the first Pastor of Southside Baptist Church in 1950 and served there for 17 years. Rev. Boyd was the Associate Pastor and Minister in Education at Crawford Avenue Baptist Church and Senior Pastor at Sisters Baptist Church in Sandersville, GA for three years. He was the Pastor at Glenn Hills Baptist Church for 20 years until his retirement. He was instrumental in starting Glenn Hills Baptist School where he also served as principal. After his retirement, Rev. Boyd served for 10 years as interim pastor for several churches in the area. Throughout his ministry he led many revivals in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. Rev. Boyd displayed a selfless spirit and was always there for anyone that needed him. He was known for helping people and making hospital visits, even after retirement. Rev. Boyd loved the Lord, his wife, and his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and working outside with his ferns.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons; Robert A. Boyd, Jr. and wife Vickie, Dr. Mark L. Boyd and wife Karen, one daughter; Lydia B. Rhodes and husband Keith, all of Evans, GA, one brother; Rev. Richard W. Boyd of Augusta, GA, one sister; Maude Crawford of Augusta, GA, seven grandchildren; Kyle Boyd, Keri Morningstar, Kurt Boyd, Blake Boyd, Christopher Rhodes, Meredith Boyd, Nathan Boyd, and nine great grandchildren. Rev. Boyd was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be any ministers that were ordained under his ministry.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26, 2012 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home.
