Augusta, Georgia---Mr. Pierce Gordon Perry, 83, beloved husband of Sue Wardlaw Perry, entered into rest on Saturday, November 3, 2012, surrounded by his family, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 8, 2012 in the Storey Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Jacob O. Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Perry was born in Augusta to the late Wyman and Ethel Cartledge Perry. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1948. He served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Princeton during the Korean Conflict, and worked at the Savannah River Plant for 32 years. P.G., as he was best known, was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. Until his later years, P.G. was an avid golfer and played regularly at the “Patch”, as a member of the Dew-Sweepers.
In addition to his wife, P.G. is survived by his son, Daniel Gordon Perry (Judith) of Grovetown, Georgia: three daughters: Julie Anne Timmerman (Rawl) of Martinez, Georgia, Susan Amanda Gut (Henry) of Augusta, Georgia and Lisa Dian Hunter (Ben) of Martinez, Georgia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Clinton Daniel Perry (Jessica) of Suwanne, Georgia, Elizabeth Alisa Perry of Grovetown, Georgia, Brenton Rawl Timmerman (Page) of Smyrna, Georgia, Carter Pierce Timmerman of Athens, Georgia, Jennifer Amanda Gut of Savannah, Georgia, and Joshua Michael Gut, Brooke Whitney Hunter and Amy Lauren Hunter all of Martinez, Georgia. P.G. also leaves behind one great granddaughter, Cora Elizabeth Perry of Suwanee, Georgia. He is also survived by brother, John Raymond Perry of Appling, Georgia and a sister, Inez Rachels of Lincolnton Georgia.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Wyman Perry Jr., Mack Leon Perry and sister, Laura Dell Perry Dean.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Daniel Perry, Brenton Rawl Timmerman, Carter Pierce Timmerman, Joshua Michael Gut, Robert Walker Hawes, David Ogburn Wardlaw, Samuel Wallace “Bud” Wardlaw III and Charles Daniel Cook Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Platt’s Funeral Home on Crawford Avenue.
