Mrs. Orel Madaline Lanning Libby
Augusta, GA---Mrs. Orel Madaline Lanning Libby, 89, entered into rest on Friday, May 11, 2012 at her daughter’s residence.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 14, 2012 at Westover Memorial Park with the Reverend Dr. J. Andrew Menger officiating.
Mrs. Libby was born July 14, 1922 to Amy Madaline Hemans Lanning and Glen J. Lanning in Syracuse, New York. She graduated from Onoadaga High School, Syracuse, NY and Syracuse University Hospital School of Nursing. She was a 2nd Lieutenant, in the U. S. Army, stationed at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA, during World War II. Following military service, she worked in obstetrics and as an Industrial Nurse, at Solvay in Fulton, NY where she met her future husband. She was married in March of 1947 and followed her husband to Norwich, CT, Manistee, MI and settled in Augusta, GA in August of 1959. She was a stay at home mom, then worked briefly at St. Joseph Hospital, after her children were grown. Mrs. Libby was a volunteer with several organizations over the years including, the Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross blood mobile and the Master’s Soup Kitchen. She was known for her cooking and passed her recipes to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Libby was preceded in death by her husband, Donald William Libby and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Libby of Augusta, GA, son, Charles W. Libby (Becky) of Columbia, SC, six grandchildren, Tye Libby of Washington, DC, Sarah Libby and Joel Libby both of Myrtle Beach, SC, Katie Libby of Charleston, SC, Wesley Libby of Augusta, GA and Ethan Libby of Atlanta, GA.
The family is very thankful for her caregivers and adopted family members, Leola Pickett, Sirilla Minor and Linda Jackson they were all truly Heaven sent. The family also expresses a special thank you to Trinity Hospice of Augusta.
In lieu of a formal visitation, the family request that you visit someone who is sick, elderly or confined. The blessing will be yours.
