North Augusta – Mr. Odell Robert Baker, 89, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at National Healthcare in North Augusta.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Westview Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Emmitt Tip Carroll officiating.
Mr. Baker was born on May 11, 1924 in Augusta to Otis Robert Baker and Beatrice Gertrude Collins Baker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 758th Railroad Battalion, campaigning through China, Burma and India. He later retired from C & WC Railroad. He worked on the construction of J. Strom Thurmond Dam, and then worked at Kimberly Clark, where he retired again in 1986. He enjoyed his retirement at his house on Clark Hill, fishing and being with his family.
He is survived by his two brothers in law, Bobby Sims and wife, Sharon, of North Augusta, and Willard Ansley of Evans, his nieces, Pam Warnock and husband, Billy, Vickie Kaney and Beverly Simpson, all of North Augusta, his nephew, Lawrence Odell Brooks of Wilmington, N.C., as well as several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois Faye Sims Baker, in 2009.
