Augusta, Ga – Mrs. Nelle Bond Byrd, 93, died peacefully at Gaffney Medical Center on Thursday, February 19, 2015.

Nelle was born in Augusta, Georgia on January 20, 1922. She was preceded in death by her parents; E.W.P. Bond and Frances Roberts Bond, her husband; William Cathcart Byrd, and her sister; Sarah Bond Tompson.

She is survived by her daughters; Sarah Cathcart Byrd Roberts (Paul) of Blacksburg, S.C., and Evelyn Roberts Byrd of Augusta, a granddaughter; Lyn Roberts Dorough (Bart) of Sugar Hills, GA., her grandson; Henry P. Roberts IV (Delia Marie) of Huntersville, N.C., four great grandchildren and brother in law: Reade Y. Tompson of Wilmington, DE.

She graduated from the Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, and no one loved Augusta, and St John United Methodist Church, and teaching more than Nelle Byrd. Serving her church as lay leader and Sunday school teacher brought her many years of joy. She was on the board of Downtown Church Cooperative Ministries, and as treasurer of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, she proudly wore that “Pink Lady” jacket.

A service to celebrate the life of Nelle B. Byrd will be held at 1:30 on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St John United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church one half hour prior to the service.
