AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Lackey Hewett, 54, entered into the rest and comfort of her Lord on January 15, 2008 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Alan Faulkner officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park. She was born Mary Ellen Lackey on July 6, 1953 to her parents, John Milton Lackey, Sr. and Annie Boyles Lackey. She grew up in Barnwell, South Carolina. Her family moved around the country until finally settling in Augusta in 1970. Mary graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1971 and the Steven Brown School of Radiology at University Hospital in 1973 with her R.T. certificate. She worked at University Hospital for the last 29 years. In 1978, Mary married her husband of 29 years, J. David Hewett. Mary loved her work, reading and travel. She is survived by her beloved husband, David Hewett; her daughters, Amanda Hewett and Becky Hewett, both of Augusta; her mother, Annie Bowles Lackey of Evans; a stepson, Brian P. Hewett and wife, Frida, of Alhambra, California; two brothers, Charles Lackey and wife, Ramona, of Martinez and Eric Lackey of Evans; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, John Milton Lackey, Sr.; and her brother, John Milton Lackey, Jr. Pallbearers will be Joe Dean, Shorty Hall, Andy Edmunds, Joseph R. Harris, Jr., Michael Konomos and Pete Brodie. The family would like to issue a special thanks to Dr. Stephen Shlaer, the physicians, nurses and staff of Medical Oncology Associates, the nurses and staff of University Hospital, 10 West, Dr. Randy Cooper and Dr. John Velky. If so desired, memorials may be made to the University Hospital Foundation, Joseph Patchen Fund, 1350 Walton Way, Augusta, Georgia 30901. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
