Mrs. Margaret Roberts Smith

Evans – Mrs. Margaret Roberts Smith, 91, went to be with the Heavenly Father on Monday, June 24, 2013 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at National Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Steele and Rev. Charles. E. Poole officiating. Burial will be private.

The Smith family donated the land on which National Hills Baptist Church now stands, and Mrs. Smith was a founding member of that church. She was a Sunday school teacher there, as well as holding various other positions. She was the epitome of a Southern lady, with strong Christian roots, who enjoyed flowers and gardening.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Clark Smith (Roger) of Augusta, Carol Holden of Thomson, Meril Merritt (Stanley) of Evans, and Gayle Ardrey (Vince) of Augusta, as well as her grandchildren, Jason Clark (Shonna) of Vienna, Virginia, Nicole Holden Eick (Carson) of Martinez, Stuart Holden of Denver, Colorado, Breck Ardrey of Augusta and Hannah Ardrey of Augusta. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Ella Raley Eick and Mary Carson Eick. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Smith, her parents, William and Estelle Roberts, and her twin brother, William Brett Roberts.

Pallbearers will be Danny Smith, Bradley Smith, Donnie Brown, Leslie Brown, Larry Brown, Dwayne Sims and Darrel Sims.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Brandon Wilde Colonnade and Pavilion, and especially to Debra Murrell, Dot Mayo and Jackie Johnson for their devotion to and care of Mrs. Smith

If so desired, memorials may be made to National Hills Baptist Church, 2725 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia, 30909, or to the University Healthcare Foundation, Heart and Vascular Institute, 2100 Central Avenue, Suite D-1, Augusta, Georgia, 30904.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, June 27, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
