Loren Smitty Smith

Martinez – Loren W. “Smitty” Smith, beloved husband of Linda Smith, entered into rest on Friday, November 16, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Platts Belair Road Chapel with Pastor Blake Pitts officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Smitty was born August 3, 1942 to Ralph and Darlene Smith in Kearney, Nebraska. He enlisted in the Army on August 30, 1965, and was stationed at Fort Leonard, MO., for basic training. During his enlistment, he served in Vietnam from August 1966 through September 1967. He retired from the Army on October 13, 1983. He received six Good Conduct Awards, the Bronze Star with the V device, three Army Commendation Medals and two Meritorious Service Medals. Since 2003, Smitty served as Chief of the Program Management Division, Capabilities Development and Integration Directorate, US Army Signal Center. He retired in 2010 after 45 years of federal service.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and faithful friend.

Smitty married his lovely wife, Linda, in 1973. They have three sons, Shane Smith of Seneca, S.C., Neil Smith of Grovetown, GA., and Chad Smith and wife, Kyleen, also of Seneca, five grandchildren, Anthony, Alex, Cory, Courtney, and Aubrey, two great grandchildren, Kailey and Landen, and his two siblings, Kenneth Smith of Kearney, NE., and Betty Buffalo of Jacksonville, FL.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, November 19, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00.
