Evans, GA – Lloyd Calhoun, 94, entered into rest on August 6, 2011.
The son of Lloyd Calhoun Sr. and Elizabeth R. Calhoun, Mr. Calhoun was born and grew up on the family farm near Savannah, OH. After his marriage to Mary Cree Riddle in 1946, Mr. Calhoun moved with his wife to Marion, OH, where they lived for fifty years. There, they were active members of First Presbyterian Church where Mr. Calhoun served as deacon, elder, and trustee. Mr. Calhoun was also a charter member and past-president of Town and Country Kiwanis Club and a 60-year member of the Masons.
Mr. Calhoun attended Ohio State University and was a life-long, devoted fan of Buckeye football and basketball. In Marion, Mr. Calhoun worked for Production Credit Association, the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, and Bennett Chevrolet.
His family was always at the center of Mr. Calhoun’s life. An avid golfer, especially in retirement, Mr. Calhoun also enjoyed a good hand of bridge with friends or relatives. For many years, Mr. Calhoun was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels (OH) and Mobile Meals (GA).
In 1996, Mr. and Mrs. Calhoun moved to Evans, GA, where they enjoyed the nearness of family and the warm weather. In Augusta, the Calhouns were members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A memorial service will be held in Ashland, OH at Robert’s Funeral Home on August 12, 2011. Interment will follow at Ashland County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mr. Calhoun is survived by his daughters, Jane Willson of Evans, GA; Carolyn Walter and husband James of Oak Park, IL; two sisters, Bets Lewis of Mansfield and Hazel Plice of Ashland, OH; sister-in-law Joan Ronk (Dorman) and brother-in-law Phillip Riddle of Ashland, OH and brother-in-law Jackson Riddle of New Bern, NC: four grandchildren, Rob Willson (Beth), Jennifer Willson, Claire Walter, and James Walter; and many loved nieces and nephews. If so desired, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3131 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909 with a special designation for the carillon fund.
