SFC (Ret.) Lewis E. Boykin, Sr.

Thomson, GA – Mr. Lewis E. Boykin, Sr., 70, entered into rest on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Charles Goodman officiating. Mr. Boykin will lie in state at the church from 10:00 until service time. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the mausoleum at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Boykin was born in Crockett County, TN to the late Dan Boykin, Sr. and Sallie Champion Boykin. He was a graduate of Georgia Military College. Mr. Boykin served his country proudly with the United States Army 1st Calvary Division during the Vietnam Conflict. During his 20 years of service Mr. Boykin earned several medals and awards including, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation (1st OLC), 2 Overseas Service Ribbons, 2 NCO Professional Development Ribbons, and earned the rank of Expert with the pistol and Sharpshooter with the rifle.

Mr. Boykin was a career law enforcement officer having worked in Illinois, Michigan, and Georgia. He worked for many years as a Lieutenant with Wackenhut at the Savannah River Site. Mr. Boykin was a member of the Retired Military Police Association.

Mr. Boykin is survived by his son, Lewis Boykin, II (Stephanie); his daughters, Brenda Douglas, Zeldralyn Boykin (A’Leshia), Danette Boykin, and Kristi Boykin; his sister, Bessie Clark; his brothers, Charles Boykin, William Boykin (Eddie), Dan Boykin, Jr. (Marquetta), Thomas Boykin (Lucy), Arthur Boykin (Erna), Eddie “Sonny” Champion (Yvonne), Jimmy Dickey (Patricia), and Bryant Reid (Jarvise); his grandchildren, Carobe Benton, Rochelle Douglas, Chancellor Benton, Dwayne Douglas (Tamara), Chason Benton, Tyree Williams, and Lewis Boykin, III; his six great-grandchildren, Tyler Douglas, Cavonte’ Benton, Donovan Douglas, Cazariah Benton, Cerroe Benton, and Judah Benton; his uncles, Countee Boykin (Martha) and Allie D. Boykin (Clara); his aunt, Pearlie Mae Sinclair; his fiancée, Deloise Asberry and a host of nieces and nephews.
