Martinez, GA---Mr. L. Wayne Griffin, 68, husband of Dena Thurmond Griffin, entered into rest on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at University Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:15 pm, tomorrow Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Father Michael J. Kavanaugh as celebrant. Interment will be private.
Mr. Griffin was a native of Augusta. He was a graduate of Aquinas High School and attended Augusta College, was a retired Manager with ITT Financial Services, served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity. Mr. Griffin was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd W. Griffin, mother, France W. Franklin and step father, David F. Franklin.
Survivors, other than his wife, include sons, Chris W. Griffin of Hilton Head, SC, Derek W. Griffin and wife, Maggie of Jacksonville, FL, daughter, Lisa G. Williams of Augusta, grandchildren, Samantha Muller and husband Matt, Sydney Griffin, Branden Griffin, Miranda Griffin, Kylie Griffin, a special aunt, Mary Jane Ferrante and husband, Luigi and numerous cousins.
A vigil, for the deceased, will be held at 6:00 pm, this evening Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel.
The family will receive friends following the vigil from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Derek W. Griffin, Chris W. Griffin, Joseph M. Brown, Luigi Ferrante, Tommy W. Hockert and Matt Muller.
If so desired, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
