John Kenneth "Ken" Corley

John Kenneth “Ken” Corley of Augusta, GA, 81, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Platt’s Belair Chapel with Pastor Tom Kalliokoski and Chaplain Timothy Lark officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Ken loved his family and was married to the love of his life, Janice N. Corley for 56 years. He attended Georgia Tech and served in the U.S. Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant. Before retirement, Ken’s career as a door-to-door insurance salesman gave him everyday opportunities to be welcomed into clients’ homes. He never met a stranger and as passionate as he was about insurance, he was even more passionate about the opportunities to share his faith and his life with the many clients who became his friends.

Ken was an avid reader and he especially enjoyed reading history books. In recent years, he also enjoyed the hobby of crocheting and spent hours making blankets for his grandchildren who knew him as “Gran-Gran.”

Ken was a baptized Believer in Jesus Christ, and a member of Warren Baptist Church where he formerly served as a Sunday School teacher. In years past, he also served in various leadership capacities, including deacon, at Harlem Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Goldie K. Corley; a brother, Daniel Lee Corley; and a grandson, Daniel Ethan Newman.

He is survived by his wife; his son, Ken Corley, II of Boone, NC; a daughter, Lorie Newman (Duane) of Pembroke, GA; grandchildren, Ian Newman (Kalynn) of Martinez, GA, Marc Newman of Minnetonka, MN, Alyse Harding (Michel) of Little Rock, AR, Jacob Newman (Ashley) of Savannah, GA, John Corley of Raleigh, NC, Grace Newman of Pembroke, GA, Hannah Corley of Raleigh, NC and Lillian and Adelynn Newman of Pembroke, GA; three great-grandsons; sisters-in-law, Joy Meyer of Hephzibah, GA and Iris Whitaker (Eugene) of Augusta, GA; brother-in-law, Jerry Newman (Phyllis) of Dearing, GA; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
