Augusta, GA – Mr. John Joseph “Jack” Cashin, III, 90, entered into rest on Monday, December 2, 2013 at Trinity Hospital after a brief illness.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Ragan serving as celebrant. Interment to follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Jack was born to Norma Rosa Markwalter and John Joseph Cashin, Jr. on November 30, 1923 in Augusta, GA. He attended Mt. St. Joseph Elementary School and Marist Brothers High School. Jack was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941 at the age of 18 and eventually became part of the bomb disposal group out of Aberdeen, Maryland. He served in World War II, entering Europe through Normandy and serving in Belgium, Germany, and Austria. Jack returned to the U.S. after the war and resettled in the old family house in Augusta. He worked in the printing business, and did printing work for the Army at Fort Gordon until he retired. Upon retirement, he purchased 30 acres of property in the Augusta countryside, and spent a large part of his retirement years planting and tending his peach, apple, and pear orchards with his brother Henry, and taking care of his horse “Dolly”. Jack turned 90 years old this past Saturday.
Jack is survived by his beloved siblings, Carolyn, Lucile, and Henry Cashin all of Augusta, and Dorothy Kenefick of St. Cloud, Minnesota; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother George and his sister Mary.
