Evans, GA – Jane Knight Hill, 88, wife of the late Dr. Patrick H. Hill, Jr., entered into rest on Friday, February 18, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, GA with Rev. Claude McBride officiating. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in Athens, GA.

Mrs. Hill was born in Adel, GA and grew up in Miami, FL. She attended Coral Gables High School, and was a member of Miami’s Riverside Baptist Church. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Stetson University in Deland, FL, where she met and married Patrick Henry Hill, Jr. Following their marriage, they both attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. After her husband completed his doctor’s degree, they were appointed as missionaries to Nigeria, West Africa, where they served for sixteen years. During their time in Nigeria, Mrs. Hill taught literacy and was active in the arts. She taught art and drama and distinguished herself in the arts, producing and directing plays and a television movie. She painted landscape scenes for baptisteries of churches all over Nigeria, some as large as twenty feet on a side. When they returned from Nigeria, she lived in Cleveland, Avondale Estates, then in Athens, GA, where she had earlier earned a Masters of Fine Arts at UGA. While in Avondale Estates, she drew pastel portraits professionally for many years. Mrs. Hill taught English, Drama, and Art in high schools and taught in elementary schools in the White County and Clarke County school systems. She was an active member and Sunday School teacher at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, GA. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Elmcroft Assisted Living and Westwood Nursing Home for their loving care of our father and mother.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick H. Hill, III and wife Mary of Sandy Springs, GA, John K. Hill and wife Ann of Evans, GA, one daughter, Margie H. Fitzpatrick and husband David of Braselton, GA, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
