Augusta, GA – Mr. James Timmons Johnson, Sr., 92, beloved husband of Diane Steed Johnson, entered into rest on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Augusta University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Freedom Bible Church with Pastor Alvin Jones officiating. Interment with military honors to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Johnson was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was a current member of Freedom Bible Church in Evans. Mr. Johnson served his country in World War II with the United States Army. He worked with the Richmond County Fire Department and retired after 25 years then went on to work for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for 23 years. Mr. Johnson was also a 32nd Degree Mason with the John S. Davidson Lodge.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Johnson is survived by his three daughters, Glenda E. Johnson, Sharon Johnson Herrod (Lee), and Tecia German; his step children, Robert T. Richards, and Jennifer R. Sterling (Ron); his daughter-in-law, Beth Huff Johnson; and by his numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his former wife, Jewel Quarles Johnson; his son, James T. Johnson, Jr.; his two brothers; and five sisters.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons Tony Johnson, Andy Johnson, Shawn Johnson, Justin Richards, Logan Herrod, and Austin Johnson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM.
