James Michael Mike Phillips, Sr.

Augusta, GA- Mr. James Michael Phillips, Sr., 68, Went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 4, 2015 in Augusta, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Pastor John Meyer officiating. Interment with military honors to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Phillips served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps with service in Vietnam, Korea and Dominican Republic. He received an Honorable Discharge, National Defense Service Medal; Vietnamese Service Medal w/ 1 star, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 in North Augusta, SC serving on the honor guard. He played semi-professional football with the Augusta Eagles as a Defensive Back, number 51. During that time he developed a lifelong friendship with Defensive Coach Mr. Tom Goforth. He retired from Walmart as a Field Manager after 30 Years of service.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife and best friend, Tracy; his daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Charlie; five grandchildren, Kalef, Kyler, Keller, Rachel and Nicholas; his mother, Cleora Phillips; his sister, Patty Thomas; niece, Amber Thomas; his mother-in-law, Sue Whitfield; sister-in-laws, Nichol Whitfield, Rhonda Maze and her husband Charlie; two nieces, Kristina Whitfield, Felicia Salazar; nephew, Daniel Winsett; and grandniece, Chloe Salazar. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his son, Mr. James Michael Phillips, Jr.; his father, Mr. James Perry Phillips; and his sister Carol Lynn Phillips.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence Willis, Larry Floyd, Kalef Rosier, Kyler Rosier, Charles Morris, and Charles Rosier. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of American Legion Post 71.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 1:00 PM until service time.
