Hubert Lester Rose, beloved husband of 60 years to Evelyn Stone Rose, entered into rest on Monday, January 2, 2012.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 North Belair Road, Evans, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 6, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Augusta.

Burial services will be held in Kenly, North Carolina at a future date.

Born and raised in Kenly, North Carolina, Hubert graduated from North Carolina State University in 1948 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He retired with 43 years of distinguished service from Norfolk Southern Railway in 1991 as Senior Assistant Vice President of Engineering and Planning. From 1983 to 1984, he served as President of the American Railway Engineering Association of which he was a Life Member. Hubert was a Life Member and Member Emeritus of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association of which he served on several committees and also a member of the Roadmasters and Maintenance of Way Association.

After 35 years, Hubert and Evelyn moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to Evans, Georgia, in April of 1999 to be near and enjoy their grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Augusta and the Crusaders Sunday School Class.

Hubert is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Stone Rose; his daughter, Joyce Rose Moseley of Evans, Georgia; his son Hubert Lester Rose, Jr. and his wife, Marsha of Greensboro, North Carolina; his loving grandchildren, Jennifer Moseley Shearouse and her husband, Clint of Grayson, Georgia and Andrew Clay Moseley and his wife, Suzanne of Savannah, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother, Purcell Rose of Raeford, North Carolina.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents Wesley Pratt and Ettie Peedin Rose; his brothers, Henry Rose, Worth Rose, Elbert Rose, Bobby Rose, and Billy Rose; his sisters, Alma Holland, Ora Cuddington, Irma Stone, Mozelle Thompson; and his devoted son-in-law, Mark Lester Moseley.

Pall bearers will be Frank Dollinger, Wick Moorman, Andrew Moseley, Phil Ogden, Herman Pierson, and Clint Shearouse.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Crusaders Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Augusta and Norfolk Southern Railway Friends.
