Augusta, GA – Helen Derrick Gardner, 98, died March 8, 2013. She was the widow of Rev. Jack R. Gardner and the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J.B. Derrick.
Mrs. Gardner graduated from Tubman High School and the Junior College of Augusta. She earned an A.B. degree from Agnes Scott College and a M.A. degree from the Lutheran Seminary of Gettysburg. Mrs. Gardner was a retired teacher with 30 years of service in various locations in Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. After she and her husband retired in Pennsylvania, they moved and lived in Savannah until his death in 1999. Mrs. Gardner then moved back to Augusta. She resumed her membership in the congregation of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by four nieces, Beth Ingram of Boston, MA, Donnalee Wynn of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Helen Hendee and Jean Umansky (Warren) of Augusta. She is also survived by her six great nephews and one great niece.
A private graveside service will be held in Westover Memorial Park.
