AUGUSTA, GA - Mrs. Gardelle Lewis (nee: Ruth Holt Jones) beloved wife of 44 years to the late Gardelle Lewis, Sr. died on February 23, 2012. Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel at the First Baptist Church of Augusta on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Dr. G. Daniel McCall officiating. There will be a private family interment in Westover Memorial Park following the service.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Augusta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Silbert Houston Jones. She lived her entire life in Augusta, Georgia. Ruth attended Mars Hill Junior College in Mars Hill, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She and Gardelle were married at First Baptist Church of Augusta on May 15, 1948. She served on the Woman’s Board at University Hospital for many years. She was a member and past president of the Wood Valley Garden Club and was a long time member of the Junior League of Augusta. She was a long time member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. She belonged to several bridge clubs and the “Sewing Club”. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed getting together with friends for fun and fellowship.

She was a long time member of the Augusta Country Club, the Pinnacle Club, Woodside Plantation Club and the Pine Lakes International Country Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She treasured time spent with her family and friends at her beach home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In later years, she traveled regularly to the family home in Blowing Rock, North Carolina where she enjoyed many happy times with her family. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be remembered for her grace and beauty inside and out and for her generosity to others. She is survived by her son, Gardelle Lewis, Jr. (Nan), daughters, Lyn Lewis Blanchard (Leonard), Ruth Lewis Brinson (Bill), and Ms. Karey Ann Lewis of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Mr. Leonard Bassford Blanchard, Mr. Fielding Lewis Blanchard, Ms. Lauren Holton Brinson, Mr. William Lewis Brinson, and Mr. Robert Parker Smith.
