Frances Prescott Rupprecht passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, May 26,2012.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 31st, 2012 at 3:00PM at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Sandra Leightner officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Douglas Hamilton Rupprecht who died earlier this year. Frances is the daughter of Frankie Trotti Prescott and Robert N. Prescott. She was born and reared near Goshen Plantation in south Augusta. When she was four and one half years old, her mother died giving birth to her sister named Ina. After this Frances and three of her sisters- Robbie, Vivian, and Hattie went to live on a farm near McBean with their grandmother Hattie Bell Meyer Collins ( Moo). Her other sister Ina was adopted and reared by her aunt, Laura M. Prescott ( Mom). Moo taught Frances and her sisters independence, moral character, and the power of remaining positive regardless of circumstances. Both Moo and Mom were strong influences on the Prescott girls as they grew up during the Great Depression. Frances graduated from Tubman High School and later worked for National Exchange Bank and Boardman Oil Company. In 1954 she married Doug Rupprecht and they began their married life together in Cuba where Doug ran the printing operation in a textile plant near Havana, Cuba. They remained in Cuba until Fidel Castro took over the country. They briefly lived in Jamaica, Union, S.C., and Mooresville,N.C. where Doug retired from the textile industry in 1972. Frances and Doug enjoyed a wonderful life together traveling throughout the United States and several trips to Europe. For many years they lived in Leesburg, Florida , and also at their mountain cabin near Hendersonville, N.C.
Frances was a very accomplished artist who won many awards for her artwork. She was gifted in using acrylic, water colors, and oils on canvas and later specialized in china painting. She loved to paint birds, flowers, mushrooms, and also some landscapes and houses. She was always involved with art groups and clubs wherever she lived. Frances loved to teach, encourage, and critique newer artists. Her artwork adorns the walls of family members and friends. She loved to give away her art almost as much as creating it. She loved gardening, flowers, and birds and knew all the flowers and birds by name. Her backyard was like a bird and flower sanctuary. She was an avid and accomplished cook. All of the Prescott girls were excellent cooks which was part of their family heritage. In addition she cherished long term friendships and was the family historian.
Frances was also preceded in death by her four sisters, Robbie Prescott Eastin, Vivian Prescott Gepfert, Hattie Lou Watson, and Ina Prescott Murray. She is survived by nephews Milledge G. Murray, Roderick Eastin, and nieces Jane P. Hager and Anne M. Barton.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all of Frances’s caregivers during the final weeks of her life.
If so desired, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 439 Greene St., Augusta, Ga. 30901.
