MRS. FRANCES FITZGERALD POWELL

North Augusta – Mrs. Frances Fitzgerald Powell, 102, beloved widow of the late Ira Doyle Powell, entered into rest on Friday, November 7, 2008, at her residence.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 10, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Westover Memorial Park with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating.

Frances, known by all of the family as “Granny,” was a life-long resident of Augusta and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife of 60 years and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A quiet, sweet lady, “Granny” enjoyed fishing, sewing clothes for her daughter and granddaughters and making special “Raggedy Ann and Andy” dolls. She also liked working with her flowers in the yard, but, perhaps, she will be most fondly remembered for serving many delicious meals around the family table. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Powell Hamilton, and her husband, Bobby Joe, her granddaughters, Bethany Hamilton Barfoot and her husband, Charles, and Andrea Hamilton Nash and husband, Jeff, and her great-grandchildren, Chad Thomas Barfoot, Makayla Lynn Barfoot, Mallory Elise Barfoot, and Aubrey Elizabeth Nash. She is also survived by her two special caregivers, Annette Smith, who cared for her for over seven years, and Ann Reed, who cared for her three years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Kathryn Fitzgerald, and her first great-grandchild, Hope Elizabeth Hamilton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, November 9, 2008 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
