AUGUSTA, GA---Mrs. Evelyn Davidson Nixon, beloved wife of the late
Scott Nixon, entered into rest on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Kentwood Nursing Center, in Augusta.
Graveside services and interment will be held, tomorrow Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:30 am, at the Summerville Cemetery with The Reverend Canon Neal Phelps officiating.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, tomorrow Friday, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
Mrs. Nixon was born in 1921 in Evans, Georgia, to Clyde and Lucille Davidson, and was the oldest of seven children. She and Scott were married on December 10, 1954, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Shiplett of Vidalia, Georgia. She was a gracious lady with a kind and loving heart. She will be missed by all who knew her well. Evelyn was an active member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and served on the Church's Altar Guild for many years. She was an avid gardener and an expert seamstress who made many of her own clothes as well as Easter and recital dresses for her nieces when they were young.
Mrs. Nixon is survived by family members including her stepson and his family, Cobbs G Nixon (Minta) of Augusta, her stepdaughter and her family, Brailsford Nixon of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, grandchildren: W. Cameron Nixon (Tricia), Thomas Scott Nixon, II, (Joycelyn), Katharine N. Cheek (Gorrell); great-grand children: Martha, Henry, and Hill Nixon of Augusta, Gorrell and Araminta Cheek of Charlotte, N.C.; Richard Shindell of Buenos Aries, Argentina, Scott Shindell of Baltimore, Maryland, Caroline Shindell of Nevada City, CA, and Colburn Shindell of Nevada City, CA. Her surviving sister and brother are Juanita D. Coufal, Thomas W. Davidson (Dot): and her nieces, Jean Bargeron Foster, Jayne Scott Toole (Timothy), of Montgomery Village, Maryland and Joan Scott Toole of Augusta. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Carolyn Bargeron, Ina Hunt, Lois Scott and Robert C. Davidson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kentwood for their compassion and care during Mrs. Nixon's illness.
