Augusta, GA – Mrs. Elle Carswell Houck, 90, entered into rest on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Golden Living Center Windermere.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Westover Memorial Park at 11:00 AM with Dr. Jacob Malone officiating.

A native of Augusta, Mrs. Houck was an active lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. She had been a member of the Junior League of Augusta, Colonial Dames, and Wildwood Garden Club. She was a graduate of Tubman High School, Augusta Junior College, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Shorter College in Rome, GA.

Mrs. Houck is preceded in death by her parents Mr. James Joseph Carswell and Mrs. Bertha Winter Carswell, her sister, Miss Bertha Carswell, and her brother, Mr. J. J. Carswell, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Mr. Thomas R. “Tommy” Houck of Augusta; three daughters, Mrs. Elle Houck Giles of Martinez, GA, Mrs. Camille Houck Hardy (Mr. Joseph Knox Hardy), Mrs. Beth Houck Ligon (Mr. Ronald Allen Ligon) of Martinez, GA, seven grandchildren, Murray Anne Giles, David Lawrence Giles (Diann), Elizabeth Giles Gay (Matt), J. Knox Hardy, Jr. (Katie), Laura Camille Hardy, Dr. Jennifer Amanda Ligon, Ronald Allen Ligon, Jr., and seven great grandchildren.

The family wanted to express special thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Mary Smalley, and to the staff at Golden Living Center Windermere and Regency Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
