Elaine C. Larson

Mrs. Elaine Marion Carlmark Larson, 91, entered into rest on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Westwood Extended Care.

Mrs. Larson was born in Jackson, Michigan on September 16, 1921 and grew up in Moline, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Whitewater State Teachers College in Whitewater, Wisconsin and taught elementary school in many different locations for over 30 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Lieutenant James C. Larson, Sr. on April 7, 1944 and continued teaching school while he served in the US Army and was deployed behind the lines with the Office of Strategic Services in Europe and China during WWII. Mrs. Larson was a devoted Army wife and lived in Germany, Taiwan, and Thailand as well as many Army posts throughout the US over 27 years. After retiring from teaching she lived in Georgetown and Pawley’s Island, South Carolina for over 20 years where she was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. She spent the last four years in Evans, GA. She is survived by her two sons, James C. Larson, Jr. (Evelyn) of Martinez, GA, Gregg A. Larson (Kris) of Houston, TX, one sister, Jeannette C. Jones of Sarasota, FL, three grandsons, James M. Larson of Atlanta, GA, Matthew G. Larson (Emily) and Jacob Larson (Ashley) both of Houston, TX, one granddaughter, Jennifer L. Nessmith (Matthew) of Greenville, SC, two great grandsons, Talan and Brooks, and three great granddaughters, Charlotte, Jamison, and Miya.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Fischer, the Center for Primary Care, Morningside Assisted Living, Westwood Extended Care, and our wonderful sitters who helped care for her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
