Edward John Johnson, Jr

October 19, 1955 — August 16, 2021

Edward John Johnson Jr. was born on October 19, 1955 to the late Olestine Monroe Brown (late David Brown) and late Edward “Chico” Johnson Sr. in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the only child from this union. He was called home to glory on August 16, 2021.

Edward grew up in a large, loving family in East Baltimore. He was educated through the Baltimore City Public School System, and immediately following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975. He was stationed abroad, including Germany, during his enlistment. He returned home to his young family and embraced fatherhood.

Following his separation from the military, Edward started his career at Social Security Administration. His service with the Federal Government spanned 30-plus years. He earned many awards and accolades, and was respected amongst his colleagues, some of whom became friends and stayed connected over the years.

Affectionately known as “Junie” by family, and “Ed” by friends, he enjoyed spending time with those close to him. His mother and extended family surrounded him with love and support his entire life. His passions were music, good food, traveling, reading, and any intellectual stimulation such as documentaries and Chess. He considered himself a ladies man. He was also an entrepreneur, running a successful contracting business, which he expanded to Georgia.

In June 2021, Edward moved to Georgia to be close to family and enjoy his retirement. He loved living there and getting to know the people in the state that he was now calling home. This was a long time dream fulfilled.

Edward was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Lee and his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children; Tiffany (Rafael), Edward III, Katrina, Thaisha (Niesha), and Marcus (Kamila). His siblings; Vanessa Robinson, Gene “Carrington” Robinson, Antonio Johnson, Sardoro Johnson, Calla Johnson. Fifteen grandchildren, and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. His adored nephew Walter Taylor II (Leticia) and his family stood by his side until his final breath.

Dad,
They say there is a reason,
They say time will heal.
Neither time nor reason,
Will change the way I feel.
Gone are the days we used to share,
But in my heart you are always there.
The gates of memories will never close,
I miss you more than anybody knows.

Love always,
Your children
