Dorsey Marion (Ret.) Ssg Byrd, Sr.

Augusta, GA – Mr. Dorsey Marion Byrd, Sr., 83, beloved husband of the late Trudy Schwatzer Byrd, entered into rest on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Friendship United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Mr. Byrd will lie in state from 1:00 until service time. Interment with full military honors to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Byrd served his country proudly in the United States Army and retired after 20 years of service. He was the son of the late Oscar and Ida Corley Byrd. Mr. Byrd will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his sons, Dorsey Byrd, Jr. (Bernadette), and Larry Paul Byrd (Susan); his daughters, Annamarie Brooks, Delores Parker (Bob), and Betty Kokotovich (Kevin); his 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his sons, James Martin Byrd and Michael Anthony Byrd.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Pinson, William Coffey, Jr., Norman Smith, Will Farr, Brandon Byrd, and Joe Lowdermilk.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, June 11, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
