Dorothy Haynie Murray Hairr

Marietta, GA - Dorothy Haynie Murray Hairr, a life-long resident of Augusta died on February 26, 2017. Dot was born in Augusta on April 19,1921 and was the daughter of John Marvin and Margaret Henning Haynie. She was a graduate of the Junior College of Augusta. Dot was pre-deceased by her parents and her sister, Nita Haynie Read; her brothers Harold, Brandon and Will Haynie; her husbands and her son, Walter Berry Murray, Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta GA. A memorial service will be at the Family Room at AG Rhodes in Marietta GA at a later date.

Dot was a charter member of Trinity-on-the-Hill United Methodist Church and member of the Damren Sunday School Class. For the past 7 years she attended East Cobb United Methodist Church and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. From 1946-1973 she was co-owner of Murray’s Florist and Gifts & Things where she was the bridal Consultant, designer and manager. She later worked for the Augusta Civic Center and as a realtor. She was a member of Quota Club, Eastern Star and Business Women of America. She was a volunteer at the Burn Center at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, a quilter and enjoyed sewing and all types of crafts.

Dot is survived by her children Margaret (Murray) and Lewis Carter of Lakeland FL and Merrill (Murray) and Jim Howle of Marietta GA; her grandchildren John and Jenny Carter of Peoria AZ, Tom and Beth Carter of Lakeland FL, Richard and Erin Howle of Lake Charles LA and Jennifer Howle of Marietta GA; and great-grandchildren, Sydney and Austin Carter of Lakeland FL, Dylan and Brady Howle of Lake Charles LA, and Salley and Lily Carter of Peoria AZ.
