Mrs. Dorothy W. Darabaris, 80, beloved wife of 61 years of Alex Darabaris, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 11:00AM at the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating and Rev. Keith Burrow as soloist. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Darabaris, a native of Cullman, AL, moved to Birmingham upon marriage to Alex. She and the family moved to Milledgeville, GA in 1968 when her husband was appointed director of the Youth Development Center there. The family moved to Augusta, when her husband became director of the YDC in Augusta in1978.

Mrs. Darabaris was a member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta, and had served as treasurer, Friendship Bible Class and Lucy Wright Parker mission group, a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and outreach leader of her bible class.

Her employment included office manager at the Insulation Supply Company in Augusta. She retired from H&R Block as a tax preparer after 33 years of service, and during that time attended many seminars in finance at Emory University.

During her residency in Milledgeville, Mrs. Darabaris was a member of the First Baptist Church, and had served as president of the Carrington Woods Garden Club. While in Birmingham, she was president of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Her employment included bookkeeper and secretary of the Birmingham Housing Authority, and business manager of the Alabama Boys Industrial School as well as secretary of its credit union.

In addition to her husband, Alex, she is survived by her son, Gus Darabaris of Augusta, and son and daughter in law, Tom and Tracy Darabaris of Pepperell, MA, her grandchildren, Dustin Lee Darabaris, Alex Steven Darabaris and Sophie Roberta Darabaris, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son and daughter in law, Steve and Sara Wilson Darabaris.

Pallbearers will be Chris Martin, Doyle Boyd, Wesley Tolley, Sam Caruso, John Terry and Eddie Roland.

The family will receive friends at the Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until Service time.
