MR. CHARLES TELFORD DAVIS, JR.

Martinez – Mr. Charles Telford “Ted” Davis Jr. entered into rest on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at University Hospital. Ted was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Telford “Ted” Davis Sr., and Marie Mulligan Davis.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

After graduation from the Academy of Richmond County, Mr. Davis worked for the Georgia State Highway Department, prior to serving in the National Guard. Following his military service, Mr. Davis was the third generation member of the Davis family to be employed by Merry Brothers Brick and Tile Company. He later joined his father in Davis Machine and Welding Co. Inc, where he served for 46 years and rose to the position of president.

Mr. Davis was a native of Augusta and lived his entire life in the Augusta area. He was a Presbyterian and grew up in the ministry at Greene Street Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by a sister, Faye Davis Long, and her husband, Larry, a brother, Jack Burgess Davis, three nephews, Lawrence C. Long Jr., and wife, Paula, Matthew Telford Long Sr., and wife, Sharon, and Jonathan Stephen Long and wife, Tammy, as well as four great nephews, Stephen Davis Long, Daniel Long, Jonathan “Nathan” Long and Matthew Telford Long, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence C. Long Jr., Matthew T. Long Sr., Jonathan S. Long, Glenn A. Battle, Richard M. Takayesu, and Stephen Davis Long.

If so desired, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 3551 Wheeler Road, Augusta, Ga., 30909.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, May 7, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
