AUGUSTA, Ga. - Charles Calvin Toole, 82, husband of 39 years to Joyce Barton Toole, entered into rest on Sunday, September 19, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Charles was born in Augusta, GA, in 1928, graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1946, Augusta College, and earned a Masters degree from the University of Georgia in Public Administration. He served his country with the Georgia National Guard during the Korean Conflict, worked at the Savannah River Site, and then for the Veterans Administration where he served as a Personnel Management Specialist and also an Employee Relations Specialist until his retirement. Charlie and Joyce made many friends together while working and living in Albany, NY, Dublin, GA, St. Petersburg, FL, and Arden, NC, but came home to retire near lifelong friends and family in Augusta where he was a member of Curtis Baptist Church.

Charles is survived by his wife, Joyce Toole; sister, Mary Louise Guthrie; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Barton and Leon Barton. Charlie has numerous nieces and nephews: Mary Beth Bowdoin (Mel), Marion G. Jennings, Jr.; Howard C. Toole; Lucille Bush; Iris Suggs; Lee Barton, Kathy Howard, Barry Barton, Camille Spires, Douglas Barton, Gregory Barton, and Benji Barton - all of whom loved and cared for Charlie.

Charles Calvin is pre-deceased by his parents, George and Lucille Clarke Toole; Brother, George C. Toole; and Sister; Sammie Florence.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Barton, Gregory Barton, Benji Barton, Meldrin Bowdoin, Howard C. Toole, and
Ed Howard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie’s close friends Hugh Scott and Billy Wilkerson, along with The Bill Gibbs Bible Class of Curtis Baptist Church

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, September 21, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
