Augusta, GA - Carolyn Watkins Magruder, 65, beloved wife of Richard Lamar Magruder, M.D. entered into rest on Saturday January 5, 2008 at University Hospital.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Westover Memorial Park, Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Pinson officiating.

Carolyn was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Ison Watkins of Salem, Virginia. She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia, School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Talmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and “Gugi” to her family. She loved traveling, gardening, reading and puzzle solving.
Carolyn was a member of the Junior League of Augusta, Inc. and served as its Treasurer. She edited the recipes for the first edition of Tea-Time at the Masters. She was a member of the Augusta Symphony Guild. She was a Charter Member of the Heritage Garden Club and served as President. She was a member of the Richmond County Medial Society Alliance. She served a number of years as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Augusta Chapter, and received the Volunteer Services Award. She also received the highest volunteer award, the Mary Lou Reynolds Award. She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and served on the Alter Guild for a number of years.

Mrs. Magruder was preceded in death by her brother James Watkins of Winchester, Virginia.

In addition to her husband of 41 years, Mrs. Magruder is survived by her son,
Andrew Marshall Magruder and his wife Lillian, and their children Marshall and Ruthie, her daughter Emily Magruder Barrett and her husband Will, and their children Marianna and Carolyn, of Charleston, SC, her sister Judith Watkins King and husband Tom of Charlottesville, VA, her brother John Watkins and wife Donna of Glen Gardner, NJ and her mother-in-law Mrs. Richard L. Magruder, Sr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Heritage Garden Club and are asked to assemble at the graveside at 1:30 P.M.
