Augusta, GA---Mr. Boyd L. Thompson entered into rest on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, today Monday, January 18, 2010 at Curtis Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Sterling and Reverend Bill Marlette officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Thompson was born in Toccoa, GA and had lived most of his life in Augusta. He retired as a Vice President, after many years service, at Carey F. Weathers Transfer Company of Augusta. He was a mason and an active member of Curtis Baptist Church and was a member of the 39ers Seniors Group at Curtis Baptist Church. He loved being with his family and church friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Annie Warr Thompson and his parents, Henry and Eva Collins Thompson.
He is survived by his two children and was PaPa to seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, his son, Robert L. Thompson and wife Betty Sue of Tifton, GA, their children, Brian T. Thompson (Barbara), Blake A. Thompson and Bethany T. Holloway, his daughter, Gloria T. Young and husband, J. Wyman Young, Sr. of Hephzibah, GA, their children Cheryl Y. Binnicker (Billy), James “Jimmy” W. Young, Jr. (Kathy), Patrick E. Young (Deborah) and Rebecca L. Knight, great grandchildren include, Brandi Gaskill, Brett Binnicker, Benjamin Thompson, James W. Young III (Jamie), Brandon Thompson, Brad Young, Cody Young, Nicole Young, Glorianne Young, Joshua Young, Walker Holloway, Ranger and Olivea Knight, great great grandchildren, Ashtyn Johnson, Taryn Gaskill, Ryleigh Binnicker, Madelyn Thompson and Elizabeth Thompson.
The family received friends on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hunt, Bill Stephens, Charles Towner, Buddy Vaughn, Jim Huff and Billy Binnicker. Honorary pallbearers will be members and friends of Mr. Thompson’s Sunday School Class and the 39ers Senior Group.
