Evans, GA – Betty D. Goodwin, age 69, beloved wife of William C. “Billy” Goodwin went to be with the Lord this 16th day of November at her home in Evans, GA. Betty was loved by everyone she touched. She loved the Lord and was a devoted Christian.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Les Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Betty was born in Edgefield, SC and lived most of her life in the Augusta and Evans area. She worked at Retail Credit for several years before going to work at Georgia Regional Hospital at Augusta when it opened in 1967. She was the first female secretary to three very prominent gentlemen, Dr. Everet Kugler, Sam Pursley, and Brian Mulherin. Later she became the Accounting Officer for Augusta Regional Hospital. Betty moved to the Atlanta (Snellville) area in 1972 where she held several jobs with the State of GA DHR. Those were Business Manager-Dekalb Mental Health, Business Manager-Briarcliff Mental Health, and Budget Officer for the Department of Mental Health DHR. In 1984 she became Assistant Superintendant to Dr. Norman Pursley at Gracewood State School and Hospital in Augusta. In 1996 she took a position as Assistant Superintendant at Clayton County Mental Health where she retired in 1999.

In her early years, Betty played the piano and sang in the choir at Riverside Baptist Church. After living in Snellville for 13 years she moved back to the Evans, GA area where she became a member of Abilene Baptist Church where she assisted teaching Ms. Kay Meeks Class.

Betty’s survivors include her loving husband of 49 ½ years William C. “Billy” Goodwin; her two sons, Michael Gary Goodwin and William Mark Goodwin and wife Holly; her four lovely grandchildren which were the love of her life, Morgan Goodwin, Mason Goodwin, Meghan Goodwin, and Parker Goodwin; some very special members of the family that gave comfort and care during her sickness, Kinya and Donnie Brown, Cheri and Wilton Lee, Skip and Roberta Goodwin, and Barry and Liz Bramlett; her brother, Richard Doolittle and wife Brenda, and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Drew and Juanita Doolittle; her sister, Joyce; and her niece, Jennifer Doolittle.

Pallbearers will be Mason Goodwin, David Brinson, Jack Brock, Barry Bramlett, Skip Goodwin, and Lance Seach.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, November 17, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
