Betty C. Mrs. Powell

AUGUSTA, GA – Mrs. Betty C. Powell, wife of the late J. Cortez Powell entered to rest Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Doctors Hospital.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 3: 00 pm in Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. Bryan Cockrell officiating. A committal service will follow at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM until service time.

In her 50 years as a LPN, Mrs. Powell was considered a great professional in the field of nursing and was member of the American Nursing Association. One of her greatest joys was the time she sent with her children and grandchildren. Some of her other special interest were traveling, good cuisine, home decorating, fine fashions, and staying close in touch with friends. She was a member of the Sanctuary and as a devoted Christian; she took pleasure in helping strangers in need.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her son, Walter Dean Hammond of Augusta, her daughter, Kathleen Georgette Hollar of N. Augusta, SC, one brother and four sisters of Charlotte, NC, and two grandchildren Joseph Brandon Bearden and Rachel Lynn Hammond, both of Augusta.
