Barbara Jo Roland

Beloved wife and mother, Barbara Jo Roland of Grovetown, GA, age 83, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022, after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Barbara “Bobby Jo”, a proud graduate of the Academy of Richmond County, is survived by her husband William” Billy” Roland, Daughter Ellen Parrish (Kevin) of Evans, Son Matt Roland (Kay) of North Augusta, Son Kevin Roland (Becky) of Martinez, and grandchildren Frasier, Jordan, Savannah, Ella, Will, Aiden, and Kora, as well as brothers and sisters, and countless others whose lives she touched and enriched in her lifetime.

Through her tireless community spirit and love of children, animals, and nature, Barbara enriched her community and the lives of those she came into contact with on a daily basis, always sacrificing her own time and effort for the betterment of others as a team mom, class mom, scout mom, or any other mom role that needed filling. She volunteered her time rehabilitating injured, sick, or displaced indigenous animals for decades and offered tours to local schools and daycares to introduce children to the wonders of nature and farm life. In addition, her fascination with her family’s history with the railroad led to her lifelong drive to collect and acquire as much railroad related equipment, memorabilia, and knowledge as she could, all of which she shared with visitors, friends and family. Her electric personality and endless energy meant she never met a stranger, a trait that allowed her to fold those in need into her life and into her family seamlessly and without hesitation. There were many more that knew her as mom than can be listed here today. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit, eternal compassion, and loving way.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Platts Funeral Home, Belair Road Chapel. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 until service time. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice involving animal preservation and care or Alzheimer’s and dementia research, in her memory.
