AUGUSTA, GA – Barbara C. Duncan, 88, entered into rest Sunday, July 21, 2013, with her family at her side.
Memorial graveside services will be conducted at Westover Memorial Park at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, with The Reverend Robert D. Fain officiating.
Anna Barbara Cheesborough was born in Augusta, GA, on August 21, 1924, to the late Frank Sales and Annie Randall Cheesborough. She was a 1941 graduate of Tubman (Girls) High School, and in 1947 married the late James B. Duncan, Jr., the father of her two sons, James B. (Tiffini) Duncan III of Augusta, GA, and Randall W. (Beth) Duncan of Newnan, GA and her daughter, Denise (Paul) Rosenzweig of Augusta, GA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd, and former secretary of the Vestry at St. Augustine Episcopal Church.
Ms. Duncan was employed at the Augusta Arsenal during World War II, then married and raised three children. She returned to federal service during the Vietnam War and served as the executive secretary for the director of training at the U.S. Army Signal Center at Fort Gordon. A commended civil servant, she also attended evening classes at Augusta College. In retirement she was a real estate agent and owner of Southern Welcome.
She was a charter member of the Kingston Garden Club and was an award winning floral arranger; Ms. Duncan was also President of the Elk’s Aidmore Auxiliary; officer of Parents Without Partners; and active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Platt’s Funeral Home, 721 Crawford Avenue, Augusta, GA.
In lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, the family request that you plant flowers in celebration of Ms. Duncan’s long life.
