Mr. Winston Pressley Reid, beloved husband of 35 years to Nancy, entered into rest on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2023, in the Belair Road chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Dusty Womack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Winston was an Army veteran of Vietnam conflict and was a Past Master of the Masonic Temple at Long Creek Lodge in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the chief building inspector for Mecklenburg County in N.C. for 20 years, before becoming the chief building official in Columbia County. He continued to work full time at Copper Construction at Fort Gordon until the age of 75.
His favorite hobby was singing and playing guitar. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He was drawn to people who were hurting and would give you the shirt off his back to help. He and his wife, Nancy, lead a ministry at Dayspring Church called “Celebrate Recovery” to help people going through the pain of recovery. His motto was “Each one should reach one”, and he lived his life reaching out.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his daughter, Wendy L. Leatherwood (Jon), his sons, Robert C. Reid (Katy) and Christopher P. Reid (Lauren), his brothers, Wayne and Harry Reid, and his sister, Jackie Brinksneader. He was also known as Paw Paw to his grandsons, Ty Leatherwood and Alex Leatherwood, and his granddaughters, Layla Grace, Kaylee Alyse and Presley Mae, who were his joys in life.
If so desired, memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
