William Victor Wright, PhD, FRSC, 94, entered into rest on October 11, 2026, at his home in Martinez, Georgia.

Born to the late William M. Wright and Antonina A. (Flerov) Wright on June 23, 1932, in Hankow (now Wuhan), China, the eldest of five children, Victor lived there for four years before moving with his parents to Tehran, Persia (now Iran) for two years, and then to Liverpool, England, where he grew up. He attended Alsop High School in Liverpool, and could recall having to move to underground shelters due to bombing raids by the German Luftwaffe during World War II. After the war, he studied chemistry at the Liverpool College of Technology, also working as an assistant technical officer for Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), and completed his studies in 1959, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. It was also during this time, while on assignment with ICI in Yorkshire, England, that he met his future wife Lore, who was studying nursing at Stockton & Thornaby Hospital.

In 1960, ICI sent him to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a Master of Science degree in chemistry. After taking time to get married in 1961, he and his wife Lore decided to move to Toronto, Canada, where he obtained a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from the University of Toronto. Then, with his wife and new-born son Alexander, he moved to Paris, France, having been awarded a NATO post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Paris. After a year in Paris, he was offered a job as a research scientist with the DuPont chemical company at their Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. Working for DuPont, he lived in Delaware for about eight years, then in Michigan for five years, and finally moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1979, where he continued as a research scientist at the Savanah River National Laboratory until his retirement.

Eventually, he was awarded the title of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. While in Augusta, he supported both his wife, as she obtained a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Georgia and later became Professor and Chair of the Department of Psychiatric Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia, and his son, as he obtained a Ph.D. in physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology and later became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Biophysics at Augusta University.

In his retirement, Victor liked listening to jazz music of all types, but especially the Dave Brubeck quartet. He enjoyed gardening, reading in the local library, and watching sports on TV, including American college football and British Premier League soccer. His favorite teams were Georgia Tech and Everton, respectively.

Victor is survived by his son, Alexander Wright; and his sister, Olga Edwards.

Along with his parents, Victor is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Lore K. (Gerner) Wright; his brothers, Boris Wright and Ronald Wright; and his sister, Vera Hurst.

A graveside service will be held for Victor on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 12:00pm, at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30904, with Reverend Dusty Wammack to officiate.

Arrangements were entrusted to Platt's Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809 (706) 860-6166. Please take a moment to share your condolences by signing the online guestbook at plattsfuneralhome.com.
