William Lawrence "Larry" Ogletree

William Lawrence Ogletree, affectionately referred to as “Papa O”, passed peacefully in his sleep on May 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family, including his wife of 42 years.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Larry was born on October 28, 1950 to Vernon Allen and Joyce C. Ogletree. He was predeceased by his four siblings.

Larry loved being father to his three sons, becoming very active with the Boy Scouts of America when his boys were growing up. He cherished countless hours he spent in the garage teaching his sons how to maintain their vehicles. Larry was instrumental in acquiring the property for Greenbrier Schools, which his boys attended and where in the 1990’s he served as Chairman of the Board.

Larry was a member of Webb Lodge and a 32nd Degree Mason. He proudly received the Carnegie Award for jumping in a runaway car to save a child.

Larry is survived by his wife, Susan and his three sons, William Lawrence, II “Chip” (Faith), Clayton Allen (Keri) and S. Kyle (Rebecca). He adored and loved spending time with his four grandchildren, Noah Allen, Stella Grace, Eli Reese and Averie Reagan.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Bobby Smith, will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
