William (Bill) Scott Hebberger, Sr., lost a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born December 2, 1953, Bill brought quiet strength, sharp wit, and unwavering kindness to everyone who knew him. Bill lived a life grounded in service, family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys.
He was born in 1953,in Victorville, California. The oldest of four boys, Bill—at 5’8”was proudly the tallest in his family. He spent his childhood in Missouri and Illinois before eventually making his way to Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marjorie Hebberger; his brother, David Hebberger; and his father-in-law, Van Buren Simpson, Jr.
Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Isabell Simpson Hebberger. Together they built a home, a family, and a dental practice—Hebberger and Simpson Dentistry—serving patients in Mableton Georgia and surrounding areas, for decades. They met at the Medical College of Georgia’s School of Dentistry, graduated in 1978, and were married just a few months later, in January 1979.
Their only child, Will, was born in 1986, and from the beginning, Bill and Isabell approached parenting as a team. When it came time for Isabell to return to work, they agreed to split parenting—each working two days a week so Will could stay home.
He truly enjoyed spending time with Will—whether coaching his baseball teams or building forts and projects together. Though he was proud of many things in his life, nothing made him prouder than becoming “Quibby” to his grandchildren, Wayland (3) and Lilyanne (1), whom he adored beyond measure.
Bill was a proud Sigma Nu and Auburn Tiger. He earned his degree in Chemistry and Math from Auburn University in 1975. He was a longtime member of the ADA, AGD and the Hinman Dental Society.
In his professional life, Bill was steady, skilled, and deeply respected. His hands were gentle, his leadership quiet, and his kindness evident. Many of their patients were lifelong friends, their dental team, like family, remained with them for decades.
Though he retired from dentistry in 2014, Bill never stopped working. He applied his passion for architecture and construction, to countless projects, from friends’ homes to the Big Eye Hunting Club renovation.Whether at the lake, the club, or in the yard—his or someone else’s—Bill could always be found building, fixing, and tinkering.
He is also survived by his son, Will Hebberger (Melody); his grandchildren, Wayland and Lilyanne; his mother-in-law, Gladys Anne Simpson; his brothers, Mike and Tim Hebberger; his brother-in-law, Van “Spud” Buren Simpson III (Glenne); and his nieces and nephews: Merry Glenne Piccolino (daughters Isabella and Holland), Ashley Schmidt (Doug; sons Kaiden and Knox), Van “Tater” Buren Simpson IV (Megan; children Tate, Catherine, and Bo), and Heather Hebberger.
Bill Hebberger lived life with humility, humor, and heart. He was strong, diplomatic, and had a knack for fixing what was broken and finding joy in helping others do the same.
A Graveside Ceremony will be held Monday, May 5, at 3 p.m. at Westover Cemetery in Augusta. Bunny Williams will officiate. Members of the Big Eye Hunting Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
